Another Q lost

It drizzled a few times today, but thank goodness it didn't turn out to be like the past 2 days. Was working outside Mariott, near Haagen Dazz area. My first survey of the day was done at around 4pm. Was trying very hard to find couples to do the survey, but all didn't want to stop to help, even though i told them about the free gift. Geez... Quite a tough job, but i'm getting the hang of it. Wee...

Anyway, there was this new guy who started work today. He was super, damn blur about how to go about doing it. I told Danielle that, he looked like me when i first started, looking lost. We tried to guide him on how to stop people for the survey. And i think he got 3 surveys done for today, and none of them was a Q. It's his first and my third day, so i told him that it'll be better day by day, although the number of surveys i did was like at around 8? Haha!! Hmm... At around 6+, i spotted 2 females sitting on the bench, and so asked Danielle whether we should go "attack" them? She said ok, and then we went ahead with it. Both were almost eligible for the free gift, but we got our supervisor to tell to fake a bit about their age and the income they earn, and also to say that they are singles. At first, they weren't keen about visiting the exhibition, but after much persuation, they agreed to meet us at 8 for the exhibition. So, to say that they were almost the last 2 Qs of the day. At 8 they arrived, which was very good. Haha.. Brought them up to the office, to fill up the form. My Q was a bit blur. She went to put her monthly income as $2000, which made her a not qualified person for the free gift. Whereas her friend was qualified for it. My supervisor saw my Q and asked whether was it a Q, and we told him no. We explained to him the reason why it wasn't a Q and he went "alamak!" This is what i call learning from experience. She was my first Q since i started work, and she was trying to help me earn the extras, because i told her about the benefits i'll get. She apologized for writing down the wrong income figure, but i told her that it's okie. I didn't blame her or anything. My supervisor did said that, some of the guys didn't get any Q during their first week, but now they are sending minimum 1 up. He gave the fainting look when i told him that i almost sent one up, and asked how come mine were all almost. But he said my luck would be coming soon, which i hope so.

Oh, should tell you people out there about this other guy. He's Kelvin. Danielle told me that he stops girls (especially japs) for the survey. And for today, i saw it with my own eyes. He stops ladies for survey. And whenever it's a couple, he'll definitely go up to the girl instead of the guy. He's a freako! I told Danielle that, there maybe a time where a guy would probably give him a punch in his face for disturbing the girl. Actually i kinda saw it myself. He tried to stopped this girl, and then the guy just turned around and put up his hand, trying to tell him to get lost. Haha!! I'm darn serious that he's weird.

The Australian-Chinese lady couldn't make it today again. She'll return tomorrow, and i hope after this lady would be a Q and after that i'll get luckier.

No Qs, but working hard for it

Bad weather again. Also mean no people on the street, so went to the train station, coz supervisor said there is higher chances of getting people. Sill, there were people who qualified for the free gifts, but it's either they said no time, or they didn't want the gift. Worst was that, they didn't even allow me to take a few seconds to call my supervisor who would help me close the deal. What the?! Eh, c'mon lah. Free gift, no cost or obligation at all. They'll get the gifts at the end of the exhibition. Wow!! Which Singaporean won't want that? Gosh.. Couldn't believe it.

Anyway, today's supervisor (the one who did the interview) was kinda nice to me. He came to ask me how was i doing for a couple of times, and kept saying that i was doing a great job, with a pat on the head. And he asked where's my other friend, and i told him that she didn't want the job. Actually, my supervisor, he gave me tips on how to approach a couple properly. I tried doing it, but very little people would want to stop and help me. He even tried to stop some people for me, by telling them that i earn a dollar per survey done, which is not true at all. In case you people would want to know how i get paid, do ask me privately. I do use that to do the survey too, actually... To make this clear, my job is not totally a doing survey job, but they call it the marketing strategy. Now back to my supervisor. At the last half hour of work, he came to look for me and told me that there are lots of singles up at the exhibition, and so what they want now are couples. But before he came, i sent a message to him, telling him that i still have no Q and asked him how. He didn't know i message him till he saw me. So he was kind enough to help me look for a couple for me to send up to office in the last 20mins. During the afternoon, he told me that everyone has already sent a Q up, and left only me without a Q. At first i felt kinda demoralise, but just had to accept the fact. And at that moment, i almost thinking of giving up, but i told myself no. In a way, i felt encouraged by him. He told me that, the first week when he started working few years back was also tough for him. But after that, he earned quite alot of money which had remainder of $800 after paying back what he lost during the World Cup. Thanks for the encouragements, Naresh.

Good nitez world. It'll be a better tomorrow...

I'm hurt, again

My friend who was supposed to work together with me told me last night that, she won't be going to work. Reason being, she feels that she cannot do this job. How she know she won't be able to do it if she hasn't try doing it? Felt kinda pissed and also kinda vent my anger through sms. I was being honest that she disappointed and hurt me for the second time. Anyway, yesterday during training, the trainers actually asked who would like to quit before starting work, but she didn't say a thing. So i assume she's going to stay on, but didn't expect this to happen. Well, I can't be bothered with her anyway. She asked me to forgive her, but how to? It's hard to because it's the second time this happened. Haiz... What's over is over... no point thinking about it anymore.

Interesting work + "smokey" work mates

At 1pm, everyone from all departments were present for a daily general meeting. The big boss chaired the 30min meeting. Heard some crappy stuff which some people did not find it funny at all. Started work at 3pm outside Takashimaya. There wasn't many people whom i'd find potential to do the survey. But I just went with the flow. Got rejected by alot of them, but it's alright and hope it'll be better day by day. Was asked to go to Tangs Market place by my supervisor to do survey. It was a better area to survey people. Among those i surveyed, nearly 3 had the chance to get the free gift and i'll earn $40 for each who claims the gift after visiting exhibition. My extra earning of (could be) $120 was lost just like that. Argh~~ What a waste! But then came a kind Australian-Chinese (i think) lady, who wanted me to earn my bonus income. Wow!! How wonderful! However, she couldn't make it to visit the exhibition centre. Lucky thing was that, my supervisor was around to explain everything to her and she kindly agreed to go claim the free gift in order for me to get my bonus. Hope she returns tomorrow...

I'm surrounded with smokers. The supervisors and a few "senior" work mates smoke whenever they can.Hannah, my working surrounding is similar to yours huh. But they are a bunch of nice people. And i think one of them (a chinese) is dating my supervisor whose a malay. I could be wrong, but saw them holding hands and crossed the road.

It's only my first day. Like my supervisor said:"Don't give yourself pressure and targets on how many Qs you want to send up. You'll still get your $25 basic pay for 5hrs." The job may be easy, but the key to it is hardwork. "It's either you sink, or you swim", something that i learnt at work. It'll be another day tomorrow, hope everything turns out fine.

A day of rest

Gee... I got another day "off" from work. Supposedly to start work today, but the supervisors needed 4 more people to work today. It was good not to start work today, coz it was raining. And so, I got to shop something for my junior. There was a new batch of people who were at training this afternoon. Made two new friends after training - Danielle and Kelvin. Danielle's waiting for O level results too. When I first saw her, she looked the type who would take up Mass Comm. Just had to double check that my sixth sense was right, I asked her what would she want to do in poly. Wow! Indeed I was 100% correct! By the way, she looks like someone i know, and the funny thing is that, her surname's the same as the person's. I shall ask her about it tomorrow. Hehe... If it's true, then really Singapore is a small place. Oh! And the attire ain't allowed for work is t-shirts and jeans. My friend had trouble with the attire for work, coz she has only t-shirts. Our supervisors were kind enough to give her one day grace, to get a polo t-shirt for work.

Since there wasn't work, my friends suggested to go back to school to visit our CCAs. Took bus to Bedok and half way there, it rained. Very heavy rain it was. And finally I got to see my band instructor!! She said i was an "ah beng". hmph... Could see that she was with the band, practising very hard for SYF. Two years ago, we didn't get Gold award like in 1999. This year we must make a come back with GOLD! Also went around school, hunting for the long-time-no-see former form teacher. Waited and waited... Then finally she appeared, but was about to go home. But nevermind, i accompanied Chinese teacher outside the staff room while she mark her books. Ms Kang asked if I fell in love with the school, coz she's seen be back in school a couple of times this two months. Haha... When my friend and i told one of the teachers who was in charge of discipline that, we will be working along Orchard Road, she told us that, our image would be very important to be able to conduct the survey. She said something about what I was wearing (polo tee and 3 quarts) would not attract any "attention" from passer-bys and says its all about image. But we told her that, our supervisors said this is the attire for work! Was she trying to say that, we should dress proper as surveryors in town in order to catch the eyes of people? Whatever it is lah... And i'm gonna wear my dad's polos, since he's got lots of it.

I had a weird feeling after reading a message from my friend who will be working with me. She said she had a strange feeling with the job, as somethings aren't quite right. At first, i thought she doesn't want to work, and i didn't know how to reply her. She's a person who is quiet, doesn't talk much, quite an introvert. I think she was trying to say that she might not be able to do the job, but i replied in a nice way that, she works hard in her studies, why not work hard at work too? Also, i told her to be confident of herself, as well as be a bit more daring to go approach people for survey. Well, hope that she'll open up a little and be confident at what she's doing.

Gonna start work officially tomorrow... Wish me Luck... Something to be happy about... That is, my comp has new speakers!! YEAH!! I can listen to music now!! YEE HA!!!
